We rely on our relationships with neighboring clinical providers, employment partners, residential facilities and more. SMH has long been a partner with the Academy for Transitional Employment. We felt that we could do even more in partnership. It’s crucial for there to be a solid “next step” for those who are leaving the hospital after a crisis. Among other resources, the Academy is a soft place to land for some. Our hope is to create an easy flow between the hospital and the Academy for appropriate referrals, reducing stress and facilitating the process.

Visitors included behavioral healthcare providers from Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Bayside Center for Behavioral Health and their Partial Hospitalization Program. Academy members Aaron Collmer and Chantel Gingerich provided the group with an informative tour of the Academy, after which they joined our community for a wonderful lunch, prepared and served expertly by our Culinary team.

We look forward to working with SMH to provide a fluid and cohesive transition between the hospital and the Academy, a productive, recovery-based environment. Our hope is that those who will benefit from our program are able to access it. As partners, we believe that the Academy and SMH can aid in lasting recovery.

A Partnership Based on Caring and Compassion https://www.academysrq.org/en/posts/happenings/academy-invited-to-present-at-sarasota-memorial-health-care/ Fri, 18 Oct 2019 18:55:11 +0000 http://127.0.0.1/github/bayfrontmedia/academysrq.org/web/posts/happenings/academy-invited-to-present-at-sarasota-memorial-health-care/ Sarasota Memorial Health Care (SMH) is a valued partner of the Academy at Glengary. Our involvement began at the initiative of SMH CEO, David Verinder, who supported the creation of the Academy in 2016. Our collaboration is based on shared values that include caring, compassion, excellence and teamwork. Founded in 1925, SMH is a public, community hospital whose mission is: To strive to provide healthcare services that excel in caring, quality and innovation.

This past week, the Academy was invited by the SMH Diversity Council to present at a Continuing Educational training titled: “Caring for Persons with Disability: What Don’t we See? Patient & Clinician Perspectives.” Academy member, Paul Hennekes (left), provided a brief testimonial of his experience and Community Liaison/Program Coordinator, Jeffrey Jean (right), offered an overview of mental health services.

SMH partners with the Academy by providing Transitional Employment opportunities to members. We give special thanks to Executive Director of Human Resources, Laurie Bennett, for her vision and leadership.

Getting the Word out to SMH https://www.academysrq.org/en/posts/happenings/getting-the-word-out-to-smh/ Mon, 25 Feb 2019 14:00:00 +0000 http://127.0.0.1/github/bayfrontmedia/academysrq.org/web/?p=897 Thanks to Jill Hazzard for inviting the Academy to make a presentation to Bayside Center for Behavioral Health. William McKeever and Izzy DeMartine made the presentation to their social workers. Izzy says, “I was super excited to accompany William in making the presentation at Bayside. I love public speaking and enthusiastically shared my story on how the Academy is helping me to pursue my dream of a full-time job. I talked about some of the skill training that is offered. My favorite is Graphic Design and Multimedia. I love to make stories using the fantastic software at the Academy. The Bayside social workers were intrigued by my story and asked questions afterward, too.”

Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Bayside Center for Behavioral Health offers timely, accessible mental health assessments, as well as referrals to the most appropriate level of care. Visiting providers, such as Bayside, is part of our efforts to get the word out about the Academy to families and potential applicants.
