Although located in Sarasota County, the Academy is available to adults seeking recovery who live on the Gulf Coast, from Manatee to Charlotte Counties. Our members are very dedicated to their recovery, and those who utilize public transportation might need up to 2-3 hours for a one-way commute.

The visit of Ms. Susie Bowie, Executive Director of the Manatee Community Foundation helped strengthen our emerging relationship with Manatee County. Ms. Bowie is passionate about improving the quality of life in the Suncoast Region and offered to help connect us to valuable resources and training opportunities.

Ms. Bowie visited the Academy, thanks to the invitation of Academy Board member and Sarasota Deputy Chief of Police, Pat Robinson. They are pictured above with member, Aaron Collmer, who offered the tour. Thanks to Ms. Bowie for helping to spread the word of our services.

The Academy is a positive, innovative program that everyone should know about.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Sheriff’s Office and other community providers to support quality services in mental health recovery.

Chief Deputy Kurt Hoffman (pictured above) made an extended visit to the Academy this past week, seeing our programs in action, joining us for lunch and getting to know our members. We thank Chief Deputy Hoffman for his valuable time and look forward to deepening our relationship with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Today I had the good fortune of touring the Academy and seeing the great work they are doing for our citizens that are dealing with mental health issues. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office values our relationship with community partners like the Academy and will always strive to help those with mental health issues lead productive and meaningful lives.

Sharing our Mission https://www.academysrq.org/en/posts/happenings/sharing-our-mission/ Wed, 24 Apr 2019 19:37:56 +0000 http://127.0.0.1/github/bayfrontmedia/academysrq.org/web/posts/happenings/sharing-our-mission/ The Clubhouse Model in Florida is growing in scope and attracting interest from across the state. We were excited to host a visit by Kim Roberts, Nancy Russo and Sonya-Lee Zezza of SMA Healthcare. They made the trek from Putnam County and spent a couple of hours with us, meeting our members, seeing our workday in action and learning about the Clubhouse Model.

Our discussions centered on implementation of the 37 International Clubhouse Standards and the steps needed to achieve accreditation. The SMA team was specifically interested in skill development and employment opportunities for members. Picture above, left to right, are Kim Roberts, Sonya-Lee Zezza and Nancy Russo.

We plan to return the visit to SMA at the future grand opening of their program!
