Clubhouse Unites Us
A visit from Clubhouse International Invigorates our Mission
If you had a business trip or vacation that took you just a few hours from your favorite aunt, you might make time to pay her a visit. Clubhouse International is a similar kind of family. More than 70 years after the first Clubhouse, Fountain House, was formed by former patients of a psychiatric hospital in New York City who banded together for support, we still rely on one another in a profound way.
So, when Lee Kellogg, Program Officer from Clubhouse International found himself visiting family in Naples after an accreditation visit at Club Fellowship in Miami-Dade, he thought, “what’s another two hours?,” and he made the trek to visit us in Sarasota. We are so glad that he did! Lee spent time working with our members in each of the teams and learning about our employment, wellness and social programs. And of course we made sure that he was well-nourished before he began the journey back to Michigan.
With over 300 Clubhouses worldwide, we are bound by our shared belief in the restorative nature of work, collaboration and community. Clubhouse International was instrumental in providing guidance when we applied for our accreditation, and it is to their credit as much as ours that we hold a 3-year accreditation. And likewise we are always thrilled to open our doors to newer Clubhouses seeking guidance. Because that’s what we do for family.
