Academy Care-Van Goes the Extra Mile in Service to Others
The Academy sets up “Care-Van” routes to distribute food and other essentials to members.
Although our Academy doors are temporarily closed, we are stepping up efforts to support our membership. Academy members have varying needs and concerns while striving to stay healthy and safe during the COVID-19 outbreak. In order to address essential needs, the Academy has re-purposed its vehicle into a “Care-Van” in order to distribute food and other necessities to our members with door-to-door service.
Academy Wellness Coordinator, Patty Haltinner, is spearheading these efforts to ensure all members have access to food, nutrition, personal care products and other essentials. Our Care-Van distributions are off to a great start, thanks also to the ‘boots on the ground’ and logistical skills of Vocational Instructor Philip Boyer.
Our first care packages included staples like milk, bread, fruits and veggies, yogurt and canned goods. We are customizing our deliveries based on the preferences of our members. We also include paper goods, cleaning products and household supplies. In the words of one of our members, “Bless you all…I want to thank everyone involved in the care packages. I almost had tears in my eyes. I thank you so much for caring about me, love you guys!”
The Academy will continue to develop strategies to support our members during these challenging times. We Are Stronger Together.
