About Us
The Academy is a working community, where opportunities for skill development, friendship, wellness and employment are the means by which Academy members pursue their dreams and goals.
Academy members embark on a journey to wellness and mental health recovery where their individual skills and talents are recognized and valued. Training opportunities are offered in culinary arts, hospitality, office administration, maintenance/janitorial, customer service, accounting/banking, videography, and graphic arts and design. Additionally, the Academy offers social opportunities for fun, relaxation, and friendship on select evening, weekend, and holiday events.

Our History
In 2015, a working group of more than 20 community leaders representing a cross-section of the Sarasota community came together for the creation of the Academy. Following two years of planning, community outreach, fundraising, and construction, we joined forces with Central Florida Behavioral Health Network in the formation of a public-private partnership.
The Academy opened on June 16, 2017, and it is incorporated as the Academy at Glengary, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

The Clubhouse Model
The Academy holds a three-year accreditation with Clubhouse International and is part of a worldwide network of more than 300 Clubhouse programs in 32 countries.
The Clubhouse Model is a community - and evidence based approach to rehabilitation for adults living with a mental illness. The Clubhouse vision started to take shape in 1948, when former patients came together to design their own community-based support system in New York City. Originally known as We Are Not Alone (WANA), this project eventually became Fountain House - the originator of the Clubhouse movement. Clubhouses worldwide are committed to demonstrating that individuals living with mental illness can lead productive, engaged, and fulfilling lives.
