SRQ Strong
Academy members and staff welcomed guests on a mission to promote community-wide trauma awareness through Healing, Education, Action, and Leadership.
Opening our doors to other local agencies is not only one of our favorite ways to hone our hospitality skills, but also a wonderful way for us to give back to the community. It’s especially fulfilling when that agency is closely aligned with our values and culture. This was the case when we recently hosted SRQ Strong, a group of Sarasota County residents who are allied to bring visibility to the causes and effects of trauma while providing the necessary support to promote healing for those affected. Building on lessons from the civil rights movement, second wave feminism, and the disability rights movement, SRQ Strong actively supports all efforts in the community to prevent and address trauma.
Coordinating efforts with SRQ Strong’s Founding Member and Board Chair, Andrea Blanch, PhD, and Administrative Director Annelise Adams, Academy members and staff welcomed guests and provided light hors d’oeuvres and technical support before and during the event in which Master Attorney Mediator Hesha Abrams discussed her book, Holding the Calm: The Secret to Resolving Conflict and Defusing Tension. The presentation, delivered to a full house and on Zoom, was equal parts inspiring and informative.
We are proud to partner with agencies that are doing such challenging and important work in our community. Like the old saying goes, “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Thanks to partnerships such as ours, we are, in fact, SRQ Stronger together.
